Thelma Canty

A native of Spartanburg, she was the wife of Tom Canty and daughter of Vinell Porter Graham and the late James Graham.

She was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship and a former member of Foster Chapel Baptist Church of Roebuck.

She retired from Mayfair Mills after more than twenty-nine years in the personnel department. She was a 1964 graduate of Bethune High School studied secretarial science at Cecil&39;s Business College and computer applications at Spartanburg Technical College. She worked as administrative assistant for the Friendship Baptist Church of Spartanburg and was a funeral director apprentice with the Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Tom Canty of the home; two daughters, Penny Downs of Inman and Cindy Canty of the home; her mother, Vinell Porter Graham of Lyman; two brothers, James Graham of Moore and Eston Graham of Campobello; five sisters, Patricia Mills and Priscilla Copeland both of Spartanburg, Decie Graham and Mary Iola Graham both of Duncan, and Ruth Brockett of Woodbridge, Va.; one grandson, Nicholas Canty of the home and one granddaughter; Tyanna Dover of Columbia; an aunt, Ruth Porter of Tryon.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Foster Chapel Baptist Church of Roebuck. Burial will be in Heritage Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home.

The Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home of Spartanburg is in charge of arrangement
