Lawrence Mills

Born in Johnstown, N.Y., on November 22, 1916, he was the son of Lawrence Sr. and Martha Chalmers Mills. He moved to Broadalbin, N.Y., in 1929. He was educated at public schools in Johnstown and Broadalbin, Hotchikiss School, Berkshire School, and Prince-ton University.
After the war, he joined the family business, Gates-Mills Gloves, Inc., manufacturers of men&squo;s dress gloves. Mr. Mills retired in 1972 and later moved to Saratoga, N.Y., and finally to Tryon. He was a member of the Eccentric Club, Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, and Princeton Club of New York. He was also a great outdoorsman whose friends enjoyed hunting and fishing with him. Mr. Mills knew all the best covers and streams in Fulton County, NY.
In 1940, he married Elma Ulrika Finch in Broadalbin. She died on October 9, 2007 in Columbus. He is survived by three daughters, Judith Courter of Absecon, N.J., Melinda Lee of Cambridge, Mass., and Marcia Wakeman of Charleston, S.C. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
No service is planned. Interment of the cremains will be in the family plot in Amsterdam, N.Y.
