Virginia Mathis Thornton

Born in Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Lum&bsp; and Anna Roddy Mathis. She was a member of the Tryon First Baptist Church, where she was in the WMU.

Surviving are: her husband of 58 years, Jesse B. Thornton:&bsp; two daughters, Sheila T. Cox of Charlotte, and Gloria T. Ross of Rock Hill; three sisters, Janie Price of Mill Spring; Sallie Beheeler of Ruther-fordton, and Rebecca Reese of Saluda. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel Cox and Jared Ross.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10&bsp; in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

Burial will be in Green River Baptist Church Cemetery, Green Creek.

Family will receive friends just prior to the funeral from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.
