John Chalmers

Born in Ware Shoals, he was a son of the late Maffette &uot;Mack&uot; and Floride Balentine Chalmers. He was a 1940 graduate of Ware Shoals High School, a 1948 graduate of Clemson College with a B.S. Degree in textile engineering and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Mr. Chalmers was employed by F.W. Poe Manufacturing and retired from Spartan Mills in 1972. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancee C. Keasler of Greenwood, and a son, Max Chalmers of Tryon; two brothers, Carlton C. Chalmers of Beauford, Ga., and Charles Ray Chalmers of Laurens; three grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Chalmers was twice married, first to the late Muriel Craft Chalmers.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 8, 2008 at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
