Gus Frank Greer

Gus was born Feb. 7, 1949 in Rutherfordton, but spent his formative years in the Woodleaf community of Rowan County. He was a graduate of West Rowan High School.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he worked in construction. His work took him to various states throughout the southeast.
In the early 1990s, he took up residence at Hetton Home-place in Polk County where he spent the remainder of his life gardening, golfing, and cheering on the Duke Blue Devils.
Gus was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Molly Bradly Hetton; parents Gus Frank Greer, Sr. and Bessie Hetton Greer, also two brothers-in-law.
He is survived by his sisters, Virginia Williams of Anchorage, Alaska, Frankie Monteith of Brevard, Joyce Young and&bsp; Glenda Adams, both of Franklin; six nieces and nephews and one grand-nephew.
Moody-Connolly Funeral Home of Brevard was in charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held Sunday, March 2 at Coopers Gap Baptist Church in the Sunny View Community, officiated by Rev. Warren Elliott.
