New clubs are popping up all over the landscape as the area has become a popular place for new golf courses.For 45 years, Meadowbrook Golf Club has been an affordable alternative for area golfers and manager William Deck intends to keep it that with even with new renovations coming.Orginially landlocked, Meadowbrook was built on just property that Deck&squo;s dad and uncle owned.With new purchases of neighboring property, however, Deck is finally being able to expand the golf course that his family has owned and operated for the last 45 years.&uot;It&squo;s a real opportune time for us to take the golf course up a level,&uot; Deck said. &uot;We feel it will be to any golf course in the area.&uot;For this task, Meadowbrook has hired Rick Robbins and his company ETd and Robbins Associates to renovate the golf course.Some holes, however, won&squo;t be renovated. Instead they&squo;ll be built brand new. Holes 3 through 5 and holes 8 through 11 and hole 13 will all be new. With holes 10 and 11, golf will be able to be seen on Poors Ford Road at the beginning of Meadowbrook Drive, Robbins said.Robbins will begin with holes 10 and 11 because they can be built without disrupting play on the current course.On top of the new holes, all the other holes will be renovated and updated.&uot;The whole course will pretty much be renewed,&uot; Robbins said.Deck began his search for a designer ten months ago. Robbins&squo;s first visit to Meadowbrook impressed, Deck said.&uot;He actually got out and walked the holes,&uot; Deck said. &uot;That was very impressive from our standpoint.&uot;Robbins has worked with some of the best designers in the world.He&squo;s worked side-by-side with Jack Nicklaus on projects in the United States and in Asia. He&squo;s also worked designers Bruce Devlin and Robert Van Hagge. He&squo;s worked on courses like Doral Country Club, Horshoe Bay and Tuscon National.His firm designs and renovates courses around the world.So what was so appealing about working on Meadowbrook for Robbins?For one, it&squo;s in his own backyard. He grew up around Boone, North Carolina.And then there&squo;s the lay of the land.&uot;We have nice rolling land (to work with) with great trees on it,&uot; Robbins said. &uot;We&squo;re trying to retain as much of that natural terrain as possible.&uot;With all the renovations and new holes, however, Robbins says that No. 11 is shaping up to be a treat.On No. 11, golfers will be able to play the ball across a creek downhill towards a hole surrounded by a beautiful treeline and a lake.And then there&squo;s the new practice facility. Target greens will be added to the driving range. A short range practice area will be added. There will also be a private practice tee where Deck will get the chance to teach.&uot;That should be a nice addition to the course,&uot; Robbins said.For Deck and company, the main goal is to insure that the public will continue to enjoy the course that has been home to his family for over four decades.&uot;Our vision is to keep it affordable and open to the public,&uot; he said.
