After attending schools in Ridgewood, Ron continued on as an &squo;aggie&squo; at Long Island Ag School in Farmingdale, N.Y., graduated and later worked in the poultry business in upstate New York until joining the Marines in 1952. While there he learned more of the photography he had always had an interest in. Upon leaving the Marines he decided to pursue work in the photography line, ending up in New York City working in dye transfer, a blend of photography and advertising. This interest he readily converted to computer technology at home and became very proficient in recreating the work he once did manually.An avid gardener, Ron loved his beautiful flowers as much as he did the vegetables he grew for his table and the neighborhood. He was a fount of information on all things horticultural, and was always ready and willing to share both this knowledge and his plants with those of a similar bent.Ron Jantzen was a devout Christian and lived his life with humility, kindness, love and service all his life. Ron, Eleanore and Mother Jantzen became members of the newly formed Trinity Lutheran Church upon their move to Columbus. He has served his church in some capacity for many years. He was instrumental in locating Trinity Lutheran Church at its current home on Hwy. 176 in Tryon after Trinity outgrew its beginning years at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Still an elder of the church and also head usher, he will always be remembered for his sharp Marine turns at the end of the aisle when handling collections during the services. Memorial services will be held shortly (one son out of country). Notification of this service will be made when known. Memorial contributions are requested for either Trinity Lutheran Church for being his church home for these past eighteen plus years, or to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, N.C. 28722 for seeing him through the final steps of his walk with Christ.
