obitcorneliaprinceCornelia Prince, 89, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at her residence in Green Creek, N.C.

She was born August 21, 1927, in Cooley Springs, S.C. She was the wife of the late Boyce Lee Prince and the daughter of the late Miller Hines and the late Nannie Cooley Hines. She was a member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church and attended New Hope United Methodist Church. Cornelia was a homemaker and also helped her husband with the peach and trucking businesses on Prince Farms. She was one of the first female North Carolina Vehicle Inspectors. She had a green thumb and enjoyed planting and tending flowers. Her daughters remember their mother as a hard worker and a true “Southern Lady.”

She is survived by three daughters, Lavonda Turner (Manford) of Green Creek, N.C.; Jennifer Prince and husband Andrew Davis of Morrisonville, N.Y.; and Carron Smoak (Jeff) of Charleston, S.C.; a sister Dr. Virginia Brannon of Boiling Springs, S.C.; a granddaughter, Tammy Owens (James) of Rutherfordton, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Amber Dawn; four great-great-grandchildren, Bryson Harper, Kinley King, Koltan Jaxon and Briley Fowler; a special friend, Joe Turner and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Hollan Hines (Hazel), Bill Hines (Etolia) and Miller “Speedy” Hines, Jr. (Molly); three sisters, Eva J. Lewis (Bill), Alatha Vassey (Barney) and Lillian Bailey (Jim); a brother-in-law, Robert Brannon and a sister-in-law, Lucille Butler (Carl).

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Eggers Funeral Home of Chesnee with Rev. Phil Bailey and Chaplain Justin Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4251 Chesnee Rd., Rutherfordton, NC. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the Prince residence. A reception in the church fellowship hall will follow the burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Rutherford County, 374 Hudlow Rd., Forest City, NC 28043.
