This weekend, a group of students from Landrum High School will fly to Texas to compete in the 2016 USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships, held at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas from June 23-26.

This event will be the largest in history with over 700+ athletes from all over the country competing for international team spots, medals, and team national championships.

The USAW National Youth Championships is the premiere weightlifting event in the nation for athletes aged 17 years old and younger, and it typically attracts the most participants of any domestic weightlifting event worldwide. The three-day weightlifting event will be livestreamed.

Team Landrum has entered both a 16/17’s Team and an Overall Team for the team championships. They represent one of, if not the only, South Carolina high schools participating in this event. Most teams and members are coming from areas or facilities whose sole purpose is to produce Olympic athletes.

Landrum High School’s strength and conditioning coach, Chad Cooksey says, “Team Landrum is proud to be on the same stage as these competitors and is excited to show the country how hard Landrum has been working.”
