Board Certified physician and local equestrian Dr. Thomas R. Cadier is now providing care to patients at Rosenberg Bone & Joint clinic at St. Luke’s Hospital in Columbus, N.C.

 

Dr. Cadier, a former General Medical Officer of the U.S. Navy and graduate of the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University, Chicago, comes to Rosenberg Bone & Joint from Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga. He has practiced nearly 40 years in the metro Atlanta area and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

 

“My philosophy is to enhance the quality of life of my patients, working both for and with them,” Dr. Cadier said. “I love the variety. Orthopaedics is more about the medical than the surgical in many cases, and very often about giving advice regarding physical activity, including diet and regular exercise.”

 

His practice is comprised of general orthopedics including joint reconstruction with a special interest in sports medicine particularly with equestrian sport athletes.

 

“I have fox hunted for 35 years and competed in eventing for approximately 14 years,” Dr. Cadier said. “We have six horses. I can relate particularly well with many of the patients we see here because I have had many of the same experiences, as well as injuries.” He added that some injuries are the unavoidable cost of pursuing equestrian sport. “If someone truly has the passion, there is occasional discomfort related to that passion.”

 

He also noted that he understands patients’ need to “get back in the saddle” and relates his treatment plans to facilitate this as rapidly as is practical.

 

Moving from Atlanta to Tryon, Dr. Cadier joined the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital and Rosenberg Bone & Joint because of the “quality of life” the community offers. He has traveled the east coast extensively, fox hunting and competing at both horse shows and horse trials. He and his wife decided several years ago to move to the area permanently.

 

“I love this area, and having practiced in and around a number of large urban medical centers, I can tell you that St. Luke’s is a wonderful hospital. Dr. Rosenberg is a superb orthopedic surgeon, and I hope to add to the depth and availability to the practice.”

 

Dr. Cadier lives in the Tryon community with his wife, six horses, and four Irish Jack Russell terriers. In his spare time, they enjoy hiking, traveling, and managing their horse farm. Occasionally, Dr. Cadier still participates in jumper competitions. He and his wife, who competes in dressage and eventing, have a son in communications, a daughter in healthcare management, and a granddaughter about to enter college.
