Venice Alma Vassey, 85, of Tryon, N.C. died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016 at the Hospice House of Carolina Foothills in Landrum, S.C.

She was native of Polk County and was the daughter of the late Dallas and Josephine Harris. She was an avid gardener with a love of her many flowers and a passion for the family’s summer garden and produce market. She never ceased to bring anything less than the best and most delicious culinary masterpieces from her kitchen to the table. This was so particularly special for any holiday gathering with family and friends.

Venice is survived by her daughter Sylvia Belcher of Princeton, W.Va.; two sons, Ron Vassey of Lake Lure, N.C. and George Vassey of Inman, S.C.; and ten grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sons and her husband of 57 years, Robert Claude Vassey Jr.

A private service will be held at Cane Creek Baptist Church. The family will have a Celebration of Life reception for family and friends. This will be announced at a later date.
