The Tryon and Saluda Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene at 7:11 p.m., which was near the Twin bridges on Hwy. 176. The mudslide was located just inside Tryon’s fire district.

U.S. 176 was blocked for approximately four hours Sunday evening because of a mudslide. DOT crews were expected to return Monday to clear debris and stabilize the area so traffic delays are expected while crews are working. (photo submitted by the Tryon Fire Department)

The N.C. Department of Transportation (DOT) also responded. The road was closed to both sides of traffic for approximately four hours until the road was cleared, according to Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis.

DOT crews were scheduled to return to the scene on Monday to clean debris piles from the sides of the road and to stabilize the area, so traffic delays were expected.
