On behalf of the Columbus Police Department’s Explorer Program, Chief Chris Beddingfield, right, received a $500 donation last Thursday from Don Lyons of the Rotary Club of Tryon to use toward the purchase of uniforms, equipment and training. The Explorer Program provides law enforcement mentoring opportunities for teens in Polk County. Launched in January 2013, the Explorers learn skills in law enforcement tactics, procedures, and ethics while they assist in community service projects. These have included the Columbus Fourth of July event, the Veterans’ Day Parade, Race for the Fallen Police Officers 5K, and Rotary fundraising functions. (Photo by Claire Sachse)
