When Landrum hosts Woodruff in a region football matchup this evening, count on the Cardinals to make a contest out of it, with a plan to upend the Wolverines.

“They are a very strong team,” Landrum head coach Jason Farmer proclaimed about the Wolverines, but also noted that the Cardinals have been highly focused in this week’s practices, knowing what they must do to topple Woodruff.

“We know why we’ve lost the last three games,” Farmer admitted. While turnovers have hurt the Cardinals 3-5 overall, and 1-4 in the region recently, they’ll be competitive.

Of Woodruff, which is 7-1 overall, and 5-0 in the region, Farmer noted, “They have some very good players. They don’t get to be the top team in the region without good players.”

That kind of talent is also found in Landrum’s colors, featuring the likes of running back/receiver Anthony Anderson, quarterback Peyton Kemmerlin, receiver Rashaun Brown and others.

Through last week, Anderson had rushed for 717 yards and nine touchdowns, while racking up 369 yards and four TDs on receptions. Kemmerlin had passed for 1,043 yards and six TDs, while rushing for two more scores. Brown has 246 receiving yards to date.

“We’re continuing to work hard,” Farmer noted, on this week’s practices. He remarked that the Cardinals haven’t reached the point where they’d like to be, but are “closing the gap.”

Opening kickoff at Cardinal Stadium this evening is set for 7:30 p.m.

“We’re going to show up to win,” Farmer promised.

Not to be confused with the Woodruff Wolverines, the Polk County Wolverines have this evening off.
