LFD responds to burning van at Landrum gas station

The Landrum Fire Department responded to a burning vehicle call at approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19.

A Honda Odyssey traveling from Saluda caught fire while refueling at the Ingles gas station located at 1851 Highway 14 in Landrum.

According to 1st Lieutenant Calem Upton, the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine bay of the vehicle and evacuated herself along with two children traveling with her. A man, whose name was not available, pulled the vehicle forward and away from the gas pump where it later burned.

Upon arrival, the Landrum Fire Department extinguished the fire within 15 minutes and spent approximately 45 minutes on the site.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
