An event in response to the church shootings in Charleston, S.C. will be held at Roger’s Park next Thursday, July 9.

The event, called “Peace, Love and Understanding” is being presented by the Thermal Belt Friendship Council and will feature music and discussion in response to the Emanuel AME church tragedy on Wednesday, June 17 where nine people were shot and killed during a bible study.

The event will be at Rogers Park in downtown Tryon from 7-8:30 p.m. on July 9 with gospel choirs and the band 176 performing.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Warren Carson, of Tryon.

The event is free with donations accepted. All donations will benefit the Emanuel AME Church.

In case of rain, the event will be held at the First Baptist Church of Tryon, located at 125 Pacolet Street.
