Phipps to receive Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award

The board of directors for the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation, Inc., is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2015 Stuart Forbes Polk High Scholar Award. This $4,000 renewable scholarship is awarded to a Polk County High School student who is a strong, well-rounded student who excels in a specific area of study or who demonstrates talent in a specific area such as fine arts education, science education, career education, healthcare, or environmental education.

The student demonstrates a commitment to helping others and participates in school clubs and extracurricular activities. The scholarship is awarded by the Stuart and Margaret L. Forbes Foundation and is administered by the Polk County Community Foundation.

Sarah Phipps is an honor student at Polk County High. She serves as Key Club president, Senior Class president, and president of the National Honor Society. Phipps has played a variety of school sports, including volleyball, basketball and soccer. She is also a Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ Leader. Last fall, Phipps was voted Polk County High School Homecoming Queen by her peers.

 

In May, 2014 Phipps won Best Talent Award at the 5th Annual NC Chinese Language Contest. Her three-minute speech, entirely in Chinese, recounted a two week mission trip to Beijing. Sarah plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall and pursue a degree in global business with a minor in Chinese. Her future goal is to begin a non-profit organization that focuses on improving the physical and spiritual conditions of others. Phipps is the daughter of Genie and David Phipps of Mill Spring.
