The $350,000 renovation included adding concierge-style information pods, four large screen monitors to which travel information can be sent from tablets at the pods, two large screen monitors to display weather and traffic information from across the state, an electronic guestbook, a color-coded large-scale map of the state on the wall, and new landscaping.

According to Devon Harris, visitor services manager with SCPRT, the goal is to provide travelers a “personal touch complemented with technology.”

Landrum’s welcome center is the first of nine across the state to be remodeled. According to Dawn Dawson-House, director of corporate communications for SCPRT, the agency will use lessons learned from this remodel to apply to the other welcome centers. Dawson-House said that a new entrance sign is to be installed by July.
