The accident occurred at approximately 10:32 a.m. with the occupant of the vehicle sustaining no injuries, according to the Tryon Fire Department.

The pole broke in two places and caused downed power lines. Traffic had to be rerouted for several hours around New Market Road to Hunting Country. Carson Street was deemed impassible during the downed lines.

Power was out on the south side of town with Duke Energy working to repair the pole into the afternoon. Reports were that remaining power outages were scheduled to be resolved by late afternoon Thursday.

The Tryon Police Department did not give the driver any citations.
