Highly acclaimed guitarist, singer and songwriter, Little G Weevil, called “a new blues star” by Bob Margolin, will headline Chase Away the Blues on Saturday, March 12 at Tryon Fine Arts Center. The blues benefit concert sponsored by Spartanburg’s Pacolet Milliken will start at 6 p.m. with continuous music until 11 p.m.

Little G Weevil, born in 1977 near Budapest, Hungary, started his own band in 1998, toured Europe, and then felt the call of the American South in 2004.  His entire career has focused solely on the music of the American South, and this can be clearly heard in his original songs. With three highly acclaimed solo albums under his belt, he has developed a style unmistakably his own, mixing old school southern blues with original ideas.

“He somehow delivers intact the spirit and sound of blues legends from 80 years ago… A new blues star is here, he proves it,” said Bob Margolin.

Weevil has won numerous international blues awards, and has been described as “recalling the foot banging percussion of John Lee Hooker, the directness of Mississippi John Hart and the string bending slide acumen of so many greats…killer stuff,” said Chris Spector of Midwest Record.

Blues, R&B, soul and southern rock will be played throughout the center in three different venues. Little G Weevil headlines a slate on the main stage including the internationally renowned jazz and folk musician Daryle Ryce, The Rickey Godfrey Band playing tunes to make you move and groove, and Asheville’s Free Flow Band playing soul/funk/R&B/blues.

Upstate Blues Keyboardist Tommy Lytle will be on hand early in the evening in a cozy venue downstairs in the building. Tryon’s claim to rock and roll fame, keyboardist/singer Jim Peterman, joined by Dr. Blues, a.k.a. Chuck Beattie from Asheville, and Spartanburg’s Shane Pruitt will keep the blues playing nonstop in the center’s lobby entertaining patrons between main stage sets. A jam session on the main stage with an unpredictable mix of players will bring it all home in the final climax in an evening of highlights.

Proceeds from the fourth annual Chase Away the Blues benefit will fund operations at Tryon Fine Arts Center. VIP and general admission tickets are available. All tickets allow entry to the three music venues, with a special sponsor lounge providing complimentary food and drink available for VIP ticket holders. For tickets, call 828-859-8322 or visit www.tryonarts.org.
