Spartanburg County selected by FEMA to participate in America’s Prepare-athon

Spartanburg County has been selected by FEMA Region 4 to be the first county in South Carolina to participate in the America’s Prepare-athon campaign. The event will coincide with the annual statewide tornado drill, which will be conducted as part of Severe Weather Awareness week, at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11.

The goal is to have as many people in Spartanburg County participate in this drill, whether they are at home, work or school, wherever they may happen to be at 9 a.m.

This is also an opportunity to further promote the CodeRED emergency notification/automated weather alerting system, encouraging everyone to self-register their cell phones if they haven’t already done so.

Cell phones can be registered by visiting www.scoem.org, and clicking on the box on the right side of the home page, below the title “Mass Notification Alerts.” The CodeRED system will also be used to send out reminders to the entire county on the morning of the tornado drill.
