Campobello man shot in head will be charged

A Campobello man was found Wednesday, Dec. 17 in a ditch shot in the head on Walnut Hill Church Rd., according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office and will be charged with assault and battery and trespassing.

Eric Theron West, of 440 Walnut Hill Church Rd. was found in a ditch by deputies in front of 16 Walnut Hill Church Rd. being treated for a gunshot wound to the head, according to sheriff reports.  Deputies were called to the scene shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday.

West was transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and as of Wednesday evening was being treated for a non-life threatening wound, according to reports.

Jimmy Bowers of the residence was also on scene.

Investigators responded to the scene and determined that West and Bowers reportedly were involved in a physical altercation in the yard of Bowers’ home.

During the altercation, Bowers produced a handgun and the two scuffled over the gun, according to the report. Bowers was determined to have fired the weapon, with West sustaining a gunshot wound to the head, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies determined West trespassed on Bowers’ property after Bowers asked West to leave.

Warrants were signed Wednesday evening for the arrest of West. Once West is released from the hospital, the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office will charge him with assault and battery-third degree and trespassing, according to the sheriff’s office.
