A Tryon commissioner has decided to set up opportunities once a month for residents to bring up issues prior to monthly council meetings.
Tryon Commissioner George Baker announced during the town’s Nov. 18 meeting that he is establishing “Corner the Commissioner,” which will be an opportunity for residents to sit and discuss or complain about town issues.

Baker said every Monday before the monthly Tuesday meeting (third Tuesday of the month), he is going to find a place, or an open office, for any citizen who wants to sit and talk.

“I’ll sit there and listen to anything you’ve got to say,” Baker said. “If I think it’s important, I’ll bring it up at the council meeting.”

Baker said residents who are too bashful to speak at council meetings can use Baker to get their issues to council. Baker said he thinks residents and elected officials need to do more talking with each other, saying “we are a small town; we all know each other.”
