After Asheville defeated Polk County in the young football season’s second game, Wolverines’ coach Jamie Thompson insisted that those early match-ups against great teams (Shelby and Asheville) would make the Wolverines better. Not only have the Wolverines gotten better, but as Thompson predicted, they have found their
identity, one game at a time. On Friday, Polk won its fifth straight, and went 2-0 in Western Highlands Conference competition, whipping Mountain Heritage, 34-6, at Columbus. It’s conference game number three this Friday, at Mitchell. Opening kickoff is set for 7:30.
