Jazz Quartet at Landrum Library Fall Fest Sept. 18

The third performance in a series of four continues Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Landrum Library with four musicians from Asheville, N.C. This Jazz Quartet features Frank Southcorvo on the sax and Jason DeCristofaro vibes, along with Micah Thomas on the drums and Danny Ianucci, bass.

Frank Southcorvo has been leading bands in the Asheville, N.C. area since 1989. He also puts his saxophone and arranging talents to use as a sideman in a variety of styles from big band jazz to reggae and rhythm and blues. His love of jazz started in Boston, where he studied with Blue Note recording artist Gerry Bergonzi. He has performed music as a founding member of the Dixie Dregs Band with Steve Morse.

Jason DeCristofaro is a multifaceted and active educator, performer and composer based in Asheville, N.C. He is adjunct faculty at Brevard College, where he teaches Applied Jazz, World Music, Jazz History and Aural Skills. He is also an online faculty member at A-B Technical Community College in Asheville, N.C., where he teaches Music Appreciation and Jazz History. He is a published composer with C. Alan Publications.

Danny Ianucci is currently involved in several local jazz, bluegrass and fusion projects including Brushfire Stankgrass as their full-time bassist, the Jason DeCristofaro Trio and many other random jazz gigs. He also performs regularly with the Spartanburg Philharmonic, Hendersonville Philharmonic, Brevard Symphony and members of the Asheville Symphony.

Micah Thomas is one of the most versatile and knowledgeable drummers you can find in Western North Carolina.  As well as being a teacher for the Jim Beaver School of Music, Thomas has established a career performing, touring and recording with some of the best musicians in the southeast. Thomas made a name for himself in the local music scene and in 2010 joined up with Asheville’s own Bluegrass Fusion Super-group, Brushfire Stankgrass.
