The Polk County Campus Isothermal Community College Foundation is proud to announce that it will begin inducting a total of six students this fall into the New Century Scholars (NCS) program instead of three, thereby potentially doubling the number of recipients each year.
Selected for NCS participation the in seventh grade, the program can provide two years of fully paid tuition at Isothermal Community College. It is designed to help students develop their potential for success in college through mentoring support, as well as workshops and other activities throughout their middle and high school years. Studies have shown that when students are given encouragement early in their academic careers, they are more likely to stay in school and achieve their goals.
New Century Scholars is a locally funded initiative with monies coming from area businesses, individuals, clubs, organizations and fundraisers such as the golf tournament to be held on Monday, October 20 sponsored by the Polk County Campus Isothermal Community College Foundation. Currently there are 16 Polk County students in the New Century Scholars program.
