A group of eight student athletes from PCHS and one from PCMS traveled to St. Simon’s Island, Ga. along with a group from Chapman High School (Inman, S.C.) for FCA leadership camp.
The camp took place from Monday, June 30 – Friday, July 4 on the campus of the Epworth by the Sea Conference and Retreat Center. Each student was assigned a different huddle group, which was led by a college athlete, such as Eli Grambling from the Mercer University football team and Hannah Wood, a track all-American from Kennesaw State University.
The students competed in various sports and also had spiritual discussion time with their huddles.
During the morning chapel sessions, a college athlete would give their testimony and another would discuss the camp theme of the day.
During the evening sessions, Stuart Hall would challenge the athletes to be the leaders that God has called them to be. Haley Morgan Smith did an awesome job leading worship during both sessions.
Each day, the students also attended different leadership breakout sessions to help them be a better spiritual leader in their school and on their teams.
The following student athletes from Polk attending the camp: Sarah Phipps (volleyball, basketball, soccer), Malena Roman (volleyball, soccer), Rhian Alley (soccer), Clark Phipps (soccer, basketball, baseball), Brett Phipps (soccer, basketball, baseball), Nate Smart (soccer, baseball), Storm Wheeler (football, track), Jamal Wheeler (football, basketball) and Eli Hall (cross-country, track).
