Polk County and Landrum have three softball players who will be going to San Diego, Calif. to play in the ASA/USA national softball tournament July 27 – Aug. 3.
Ashley Scruggs, a rising sophomore and varsity pitcher for Polk county High School; Autumn Owen, a rising freshman for Polk County High School; and Sara Price, a rising freshman for Landrum High School, all play for 3rd Degree Softball, a travel team based out Gaffney, S.C.
They recently won the ASA national qualifier and also won the ASA state tournament. The players have goals set with their first goal to honor God and give him all the glory for their amazing capabilities.
Their second goal is to always work harder than the competition and never give up. These girls proved that in recent tournaments. They played seven straight games on that Sunday with no breaks between games with parents feeding them through the fence to keep them nourished and hydrated.
They prayed before and after every game knowing that it was God’s grace giving them the endurance and focus they needed. They never gave up on their goal and the trip to San Diego is a once in a lifetime opportunity for this group. The ASA Nationals is a very prestigious opportunity with many college scouts attending.
The players are seeking donations for their trip to California. If interested in helping, send a donation payable to: 3rd Degree Softball and mail to 2100 Red Fox Road., Tryon, N.C. 28782.
