Many organizations and individuals in Polk County have shown their support of April being child abuse prevention month by displaying pinwheels outside their facilities and homes.
The pinwheel is the new symbol of child abuse and neglect prevention, symbolizing the stable, healthy childhood all children deserve. Pinwheels and pinwheel gardens help create awareness of the role adults have in ensuring children’s healthy development and growth.
Pinwheels are to symbolize the commitment to ensuring all children thrive in loving, nurturing environments; the commitment to ending child abuse, neglect and maltreatment and the efforts to change the way people thing about child abuse and neglect prevention.
