Tracy and Jim Becker of Mill Spring recently opened My Gym and Fitness Center, a 24/7 exercise facility in Columbus.  Tracy, who is originally from Wisconsin, always wanted to open her own gym and fitness center and in mid-November the couple did just that.  The Beckers leased what was once a bank office at the end of a shopping center that also accommodates Food Lion, Columbus ABC Store and a Subway franchise.
Tracy, who has background in business and Jim who has spent his career in electronics and video surveillance, transformed what was once a sterile office facility into a state-of-the-art fitness center. Where the vault once sat now sits a beautiful exercise studio that is perfect for group programs including zumba, yoga and extreme fitness.
The bathroom, which once met code for the bank branch was renovated into a high quality spa atmosphere, complete with a large custom tiled shower and changing room.
What was once a storage room is now a highly secure and extremely private tanning center, offering a safe and relaxed environment under the lamps.
Not only is the facility wired for security with electronic entry and state-of-the-art video surveillance, it also boasts of a substantial amount of exercise equipment. For that matter, there is so much equipment that few can use the excuse that they had to wait for their turn on a machine.  Multiple elliptical training machines, treadmills and bikes outfitted with high tech exercise routines; bio-monitoring and even high-def television screens populate the center.
Becker said that a large portion of the building is laid out in a strategic training format where a person can experience a full body workout while revolving around the room from machine, to machine.
Depending on the number of reps on each machine the end result can reach all muscle groups including thighs, hips, buttocks, quads and hamstrings.
Becker said that free weights and plate-loaded fitness equipment are also available for use for those who wish to condition both upper and lower muscle groups using a wide spectrum of barbells and dumbbells.
Becker said that for those starting out at My-Gym, the center has four trainers to choose each dedicated to customizing a conditioning program specific to one’s life styles and milestone goals.
Katheryn Gordon, a staff member is one in particular who is an exercise physiologist who earned a Bachelors of Science degree in exercise science and a minor in adolescent health from the University of Tennessee.
Becker says that she has nine dedicated staff members. Her trainers work by appointment.  Alivia Livesay, 17, attends Polk County High school said she loves working there and does a variety of duties, including manning the front desk. Livesay said that people love the fact that they are issued an electronic key granting them access to the facility anytime day or night.
Becker says that she likes to offer healthy snacks and drinks  from their vending machine in the gym but is also a representative for AdvoCare, which offers a full line of health and wellness products specific to nutrition and skincare.
Livesay said that the gym already has approximately 200 members with more joining every day. Livesay also said that their membership levels offer a variety of options providing flexibility and choice to individual lifestyles.
“We also had of lot of new members join with respect to their new year’s resolution to lose weight and tone up,” said Livesay.
