A tree fell on this home at 186 Melrose Ave. Wednesday morning.

A segment of Melrose Ave in Tryon., beginning at the intersection with Walnut St., was blocked Wednesday, Aug. 7 after a large tree crashed into the roof of a home at 186 Melrose Ave.

This very hold tree crashed into the home around 11:30 a.m. while a resident was inside.

The home is located directly next to and is owned by the Congregational Church of Tryon.

Emergency responders were called around 11:30 a.m. to respond to a tree falling on the home and surrounding power lines. Duke Power responded to the scene to determine steps for removal of the tree so that further damage was not done to power lines.

Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis said he also called in the Polk County Building Inspector to determine the safest way to move forward.

A resident was inside the home along with a cat. The resident was shaken up, but not physically injured. She preferred to not comment on the incident.
