Julian G. Carter, 86, of Laurel Hurst died Saturday, August 3, 2013.

Born in Columbus County, N.C. in 1927, he was the son of the late G. Walter and Martha C. Carter of Chadbourn, N.C. A 1957 graduate of Western Carolina University, he was Director of Maintenance and Construction for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

He was a member of Red Fox Country Club and the Congregational Church of Tryon. Julian was a Korean War veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean R. Carter whom he married April 27, 1953. Also surviving are his son George Carter of Phoenix, Az.; a sister, Mary Alice Edmunds of Chadbourn, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 in McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, N.C. with Rev. Phillip Hurst officiating.

Family will receive friends prior to the service in McFarland Funeral Chapel from 1- 1:45 p.m.
