Local students return from Cannon Music CampPublished 9:55am Tuesday, July 23, 2013
Six local high school students with scholarships from the Laurel Lake Music Society of Columbus recently participated in seven different music and vocal programs at the conclusion of the Cannon Music Camp in Boone, N.C. Those attending were:
Dakota Cox and Lee Jackson, Landrum High School, and Emily Gage, Colby McGuinn, Jessica Woods and Spencer Taunton of Polk County High School.
Lee Jackson and Jessica Woods received special awards for their performance in music theory.
Eighteen residents of Tryon Estates, including donors to the scholarship program, attended a portion of the three-day final concerts on July 18 – 20.
The camp lasted three weeks and included intensive training in all aspects of music. This year marked the 45th annual season of the Cannon Music Camp. Students have come from 27 states and 11 nations to attend.
Sixty faculty and staff members, many professors in music, conducted the programs. The total enrollment of students is limited so that special attention can be given to each student.
Students interested in participating in the 2014 program should plan to submit applications in October and audition in November 2013.
