Due to a change in the National Steeplechase Association calendar, the Block House Steeplechase will move to the first Saturday in May.

A decision was reached by officials associated with the event to move the race meet after the Atlanta Steeplechase changed their race date to the same weekend as the Block House.

With two other races being held at that time, it would seriously effect the ability to draw horses and jockeys to Tryon.

“This move to the first weekend in May is a positive thing for us” said Nancy Z. Wilson, president of TR&HC Events.

“The only other steeplechase being held at the time is the Virginia Gold Cup, so it gives us an opportunity to court more riders, horses and trainers to our event.”

Although the Kentucky Derby is on the same day, it will have no impact on entries at the Block House Races. The Block House will run on May 3, 2014.
