Hank Welch

Henry Walter Williams Welch, 98, of Red Fox Circle, Tryon, died Monday, April 15, 2013 at his home.

Born in Jefferson, Ohio, he was the son of the late Walter Henry and Amelia Schneider Welch.  He was a graduate of Lockport High School, Lockport, N.Y. and Walsh College, Troy, Mich. where he was a trustee emeritus.

Hank began work with General Motors at Harrison Radiator.  He continued working for GM in Detroit, Mich. until his retirement in l975 as vice president of finance. He moved to Tryon in l975. Locally, Hank was a member of the Tryon Rotary and was active over the years in numerous community organizations. He was a member of the Bloomfield Hills Country Club, Bloomfield, Mich.; Biltmore Country Club, Asheville, N.C., Tryon Country Club and Red Fox Country Club, both in Tryon. Mr. Welch was a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon.

Surviving is his wife of 24 years, Chaney Comer Welch of the home; a step-daughter, Amanda Stewart (Mark) of Flat Rock, N.C.; a brother, George N. Welch of Escondido, Calif. and sister-in-law Jeanette Comer of Tryon.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
