Avery’s club came close to scoring several times during the second half, but Polk’s defense, led by Makenzie White cleared the ball almost every time.
“The defense did a great job,” Charles said, pausing before jokingly adding “and the one time they didn’t, we were lucky the crossbar did.”Charles was referring to a shot by Avery midway through the second half that bounced off the top of the goal.
“Overall, I think we did a good job today,” he said, “but we’re about to head into some very difficult games. I think if we play our best, we’ll be happy with the results.”
Polk’s next game is Tuesday, April 9 at Madison. Their next home game is April 15 verses Mountain Heritage.
