Roger Dale Gilbert

Roger Dale Gilbert, 68, of 1210 Coopers Gap Road, Mill Spring, died Monday, March 11, 2013 in Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.

Born in Polk County, he was the son of the late Hoyt and Edna Haynes Gilbert.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served for eight years.

Mr. Gilbert retired from GE Hendersonville, N.C. after 30 years of service.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Owensby Gilbert; one son, Roger Brian Gilbert of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, Luther Gilbert (Jossie) of Sunny V iew and Wade Gilbert (Diane) of Inman, S.C. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Jo Dean Gilbert.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, with Dr. Chris Osborn officiating.

Burial with military honors by the Polk Memorial Burial Squad will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus.

Family to receive friends from 1-1:45 p.m. just prior to the service Friday, March 15, 2013 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, N.C. 28722.
