Landrum Cardinal boys grab victory over Crescent

Published 6:26pm Monday, January 14, 2013

The Landrum Cardinals increased their record to 14-2 on Friday, Jan. 11 when they beat the Crescent Tigers 92-64 at home.

The Landrum fans got to see another fantastic effort by their players. The Cardinals stayed in their 1-3-1 zone defense and forced Crescent to make something happen on offense. Crescent struggled to keep the tempo in their favor as Landrum kept up their usual fast pace. The Cardinals led the score at the end of the first quarter 18-13. Landrum stepped up their defense in the second quarter and allowed the Tigers only 8 points. Landrum went into the locker room up 35-21 at the half.

The Crescent Tigers came out and played much better in the second half scoring 19 in the third quarter and 24 in the fourth. It wasn’t enough to tame the high-scoring Cardinals as they made 57 points in just the second half. Even though Landrum led the entire game, there was a feeling that the Cardinals were trying to make a statement. They kept pushing the ball up the court as if they were behind in the game.

Daniel Bridges led his team to victory with 35 points. Trustan Whiteside followed with 14, and Mark Wilson scored 11 points. A. Adger led the Crescent Tigers with 30 points, while D. Davis had 24.

Landrum goes on the road tonight, Jan. 15 to play Pendleton High School and then they are back home Friday, Jan. 18 to take on Powdersville High School.
