The girls’ varsity basketball team for Landrum High School hosted the Crescent High School Tigers Friday night, Jan. 11, for a showdown fans of Crescent High would like to forget. Landrum won the match up 48-10.

The Lady Cardinals played a great first half of basketball even without key players Macy Atkins and Lexy Schulman. The Cardinal defense held the Tigers to only 2 points the first quarter and 3 points in the second quarter. The score at half-time was 23-5.

In the second half, Landrum kept up the pressure on Crescent by playing solid defense, holding the Tigers to only 5 points. Landrum guard Alison Jouan, who was playing for the injured Atkins, contributed 5 points with one 3-pointer to add to the outstanding play of the Cardinal offense the second half.

Senior Lauren Pitts and Junior Sydnie Brown both led the Cardinals in scoring with 8 points each. They were closely followed by teammates Taylor Jenkins and Taylor Hedgepath with 7 points each. Jouan had 5 points, Rachel Cooper had 4 points, while Jamesha Jackson, Keri Ridings and Becca Burress each had 2 points and Megan Painter had 1 point.

The Landrum Cardinals travel to Pendleton High School for their next game on tonight, Jan. 15.
