Gary Lyle McCool

Gary Lyle McCool a.k.a. Curley, who was a loving husband, Dad, and Poppy of Tryon, died Jan. 10, 2013.

Gary retired from textiles and loved going to ball games, especially when his family was participating. He also loved anything dealing with South Dakota. He was born August 8, 1938, in Miller, Hand County, South Dakota to the parents of William Edgar and Leona Maxine McCarl McCool.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Gene “Bob” McCool. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Emma Lee Metcalf McCool; five sons, Pat (Kim) and Kevin (Abby) of Columbus, Ken (Jill) of Matthews, N.C. Greg of Lynn and Gerald (Lori) of Landrum, S.C. He is also survived by sisters, Marlene Asfeld of Beardsley, Minn., Sharon Campbell of St. Lawrence, S.D., Janice Bose of Miller, S.D.; a brother, Neal McCool of Amity, Ore.; an uncle, Wayne McCool of Porterville, Calif.; and an aunt Anna Mae Kohler of Yorba Linda, Calif. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Mountain Page Cemetery, conducted by his nephew, Rev. Jason Metcalf.

The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of one’s choice.
