Garry R. Fisher

Garry Russell Fisher, 63, of Tryon, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Spartanburg Restorative Care.

Born in Henderson County, N.C. he was the son of the late Martha Cantrell and Vance Harris Fisher.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served two tours in the Vietnam War, receiving two Purple Hearts.

Mr. Fisher moved from Hendersonville to Tryon in 1976. He worked for many years at St. Luke’s Hospital, was a member of Tryon Second Baptist Church, the American Legion of Tryon, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of Columbus and the Disabled American Veterans of Hendersonville.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Carolyn Smith Fisher; one son, Jason Fisher of Tryon; one daughter, Jeanette Locke (Michael) of Tryon; and one granddaughter, Deborah Locke. Also surviving are a sister, Diann Capps; and one brother, Gregory Fisher, both of Hendersonville, N.C.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, with Dr. Dennis Jones and Rev. Bill Way officiating with military rites by the Polk County Memorial Burial Squad.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
