The cupola that sits atop the Polk County Courthouse had to be removed after recent winds caused the material to flap. Interim Polk County Manager Marche Pittman updated commissioners during a Jan. 7 meeting that the spire was waving in the wind so he had it removed. Pittman said he is talking to county cooperative extension director John Vining who is communicating with an architect to find a more suitable material for repairs. In the meantime, the county has capped the cupola until repairs can be made. (photo submitted)
