Landrum conquers Battle at the Border

The Landrum boys’ varsity basketball team won the Battle at the Border Dec. 28 on their home turf.

The Cardinals defeated Chapman 62-60 in the tournament final match that had fans sitting on the edge of their seats right up to the last second. To get into the finals, Landrum won against Brashier 83-47 and Woodruff 91-71 and Chapman won against Greenbrier 69-66 and SCA 83-76.

Both teams started out with a lot of intensity on defense. Even though Chapman was down by 4 points at the end of the first quarter they held the Cardinals to 17 points, frustrating the Cardinals with a full court press. Landrum had to work hard early on for the points they scored. Early in the second quarter Chapman tied the score at 17 and continued to a 5-point lead with 5:33 left in the quarter. The Cardinals stepped up their offense and came back to take the lead 31-29 with 1:52 left in the half. Chapman then went on a 9-point scoring run, which gave them the lead going into the second half, 38-31.
