The Landrum boys varsity basketball team hosted the Liberty Red Devils Friday night, Dec. 14, and treated their fans to another impressive win.
The Cardinals continue their undefeated streak of 6-0 with the 96-53 victory.
On offense Landrum players shot 42 percent from the field and made 79 percent of their free throws.
Landrum started the game with a 3-pointer and ended the game with 11 total 3-pointers. The Cardinal defense, meanwhile, held the Red Devils to only 8 points in the first quarter, while they scored 23 points.
Landrum started a full court press at the start of the second quarter that gave Liberty a lot of problems and led to Landrum scoring points off steals and turnovers.
The Cardinal press and defense only allowed 12 points in the second quarter. The Red Devils were crushed the first half. They went into the locker room down 31 points.
The Cardinals kept the Red Devils from making a comeback in the second half. Landrum had a team total of 37 rebounds, 19 of which were offensive.
Senior Truston Whiteside had nine rebounds, followed by teammate Daniel Bridges with 7 rebounds.
Going into the fourth quarter, Landrum held a 37-point lead with the score 67-30. Both teams came out in the fourth quarter making 3-point field goals but it wasn’t enough for the Red Devils.
Bridges led Landrum with 18 points, while Whiteside had 16. Chris Schulman and Trevor Walker both had 13, and TJ Fincher ended the night with 11 points.
Landrum plays Blacksburg next in a AA Region I match up at home on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
