Polk land judging teams take first

This year’s land judging contest between Chase, East Rutherford, North Henderson, RS Central and Polk County High School was hosted by the Henderson County Soil and Water Conservation District on Nov. 8.

Both the senior andjunior teams for Polk County High won first place.

The winning senior team members were Caleb Brown, Elena Preston, Mackenzie McCool, Caley Modlin and alternate Trevor Arrowood  The winning junior team members were Samantha Haase, Nora Contreras, Tanner Garrett and Hunter Hilbig.

Chauncey Barber, Polk County High Agriculture teacher, was the team advisor for the winning students. Richard Smith, retired teacher and current chairman for the Soil and Water Conservation District Board, assisted with preparing the winning students for the competition.

The Polk County High Teams will go on to participate in the State Land Judging Contest to be held in Randolph County.
