Eric Edwards recently shot a 79 to reclaim championship honors at Tryon’s Red Fox Golf Club. Edwards previously won the title in 2010. Last year’s champion, Bob Taft, placed second this year by carding an 83 in the straight up-no handicap 18 hole round.
Harold Wilson placed third by carding a 92, followed by Phillip Placak, who shot a 93. Jim Baker and Jeff Barton both finished with 94.
Roger Newman, who was the only one in the field who started off by paring the par five first hole, ended with a double bogey on 18 and shot 98. Eugene Leary and Rusty Van Voorhis just couldn’t find their regular game and both finished with 101.
Just last week, Dr. Robert Conrad won Red Fox’s Men’s Golf Association’s senior championship by shooting a net 68. (Handicaps are allowed in the senior’s championship.)
