Southern Living’s July issue highlights several area favorites in its “Make a Pit Stop in Peach Country” article.
The feature encourages readers to take a day-trip through South Carolina peach country, which they refer to as running from Gaffney to Landrum. The must-stop spots they point out in the Landrum area include The Red Horse Inn, Cakes and Confections 4 U, Carolina Antiques & More and the Hare & Hound.
Landrum City Administrator Steve Wolochowicz said he was excited to hear about so many Landrum shops being featured in the latest issue.
“Can’t beat that – it’s great advertising for our town and we hope lots of people will come visit Landrum and see we have even more to offer,” Wolochowicz said.
A note was also given in the article to washing down your meal at the Hare & Hound with a BottleTree Blonde Ale. Fred Block created the BottleTree Blonde. He and his wife, Shelly Block, also own La Bouteille wine and beer boutique in Tryon.
Mary Wolter runs The Red Horse Inn with her husband, Roger.
“The [Southern Living] writer stayed here anonymously, but we didn’t know who he was until he left,” Wolter said.  “We were very honored when we realized, but you never know until the article comes out what the angle will be.”
This is not the first mention for The Red Horse Inn on a national scale.
The inn, which is located on more than 200 acres at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, was previously named One of America’s Most Romantic Hotels (Travelandleisure.com).
Wolter said they were given word they would be featured in Southern Living but weren’t sure in what capacity.
“We can’t be more thrilled. There’s nothing like being in the south’s favorite magazine. It’s the queen of the queens,” Mary said.
Red Horse Inn was also listed on the Top 10 Places to Enjoy Fall Colors (AAA), Best Honeymoon or Anniversary Getaway (Inn Traveler Magazine), One of the Top 25 Best Undiscovered Incredibly Romantic Inns (Bed AndBreakfast.com) and Top 10 Romantic Inns” (American Historic Inns and iLoveInns.com).
