Art in Bloom this weekendPublished 6:26pm Thursday, May 10, 2012
Art, garden and shopping enthusiasts will be busy in downtown Tryon, downtown Landrum and in the surrounding countryside this Saturday, May 12, as the foothills come alive with Tryon Fine Arts Center’s Second Biennial Art in Bloom.
A celebration of art and gardens, Art in Bloom offers tours of five private area gardens and bazaars selling only art and garden merchandise in both Landrum and Tryon on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday’s “Festive Finale and Reception Celebrating Gardens and Artists” will provide an opportunity to learn about restoring historical gardens, allow a viewing of an art and sculpture exhibit with work from more than 60 area artists and offer an opportunity to share a casual glass of wine with the artists and art enthusiasts.
At the heart of Art in Bloom is the garden tour on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The five gardens were selected because of their variety and beauty. Master gardeners will be available to answer questions, point out items of interest and share their knowledge of plants in this area.
“To immortalize these beautiful gardens, some of our area’s most accomplished artists will be painting them during the day,” said Jean Pettigrew, chair of the Sunday celebration. Refreshments for all visitors will be served at no additional cost in one of the gardens.
There is no parking at the garden sites. Free remote parking with frequent shuttle service utilizing six user-friendly buses will be provided at the Family Dollar shopping center at 1005 Hwy. 176 S. (the corner of Lakeshore Drive) between Landrum and Tryon. The first bus will leave at 9 a.m. and the last bus will bring visitors back to the parking lot at 5 p.m. A booklet describing each of the gardens on the tour serves as the tour ticket.
“We encourage people to start the tour by 2:30 to allow plenty of time to really experience the magnificent gardens,” said Art in Bloom chairperson Judy Warden.
Landrum and Tryon will be bustling with shoppers at the Art & Garden Bazaar.
