Woman allegedly spanked child with belt, slapped him
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office charged a Landrum woman Friday, April 28 with cruelty to children for allegedly spanking an 11-year-old child with a belt and slapping him in the face, leaving bruises.

April Laughter

April L. Laughter, 37, of 420 Gibson Road, Landrum was charged with cruelty to children following a Spartanburg County Department of Social Service (DSS) and police investigation, according to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The case was originally investigated by the Polk County DSS, as Laughter was first thought to reside in Polk County but was turned over to Spartanburg County.
The alleged offenses took place between April 9 and April 12, according to the arrest warrant.
Laughter was booked and released on April 28 on a $5,000 bond.
Lt. Tony Ivey said it is his understanding the court turned the child over to Laughter’s household, but the maternal grandmother also lives in the home and is acting as the protector of the child.
